A PARENT'S GUIDE TO THE MARINE CORPS

The Marine Corps Reserve is critical to the Marine Corps' ability to provide a balanced force of readiness in times of conflict. Though not on active duty, Reserve Marines are fully trained, participating in the same intensive training programs and working in similar occupational fields as their active duty counterparts.

With the ability to work part-time at a Marine Reserve unit near home or school, Reserve Marines can continue to pursue a full-time civilian education or career. As a Reserve Marine, your son or daughter would generally serve one weekend per month and two weeks during the summer. In times of national crisis, war, or disaster, Marine Corps Reserves may be called upon for active duty.

Reserve Marines are guaranteed a specific Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) prior to enlisting. They will also earn good pay and receive special allowances for living expenses. There are a host of other benefits available in the Marine Reserves, including life insurance and educational assistance.

Your local recruiter can provide more information or answer questions about the opportunities and important contributions of the Marine Corps Reserve.
