A PARENT'S GUIDE TO THE MARINE CORPS

Joining the Marines is a significant achievement in your son or daughter's life. There's nothing like the transformation from a Recruit to a Marine - it is exciting, fulfilling, and challenging. But there might be some anxiety and concern about readiness and ability to start this new life journey.

Starting or intensifying an exercise and fitness program is a great way for any young person to become more mentally prepared for Recruit Training, as it creates a mindset of challenge and triumph. It will help them become accustomed to the habits they will adopt once in the Marine Corps.

Your son or daughter should list positive personal characteristics, such as "dependable" and "honest", and then put this list where they can see it frequently. An accompanying qualifying statement for each characteristic may be just the thing to inspire confidence. Looking at this list will remind your young person that he or she does indeed have what it takes to become a United States Marine.

We encourage you, along with your son or daughter, to visit Marines.com. There, you'll learn more about the Marines, along with more information about getting prepared for life in the Marine Corps.
