THE GREATER THE CHALLENGE, THE GREATER THE REWARD.
A Marine's most valuable set of skills is developed during Recruit Training. Marines learn to be confident, resourceful, and highly adaptive.
Many former Marines give credit to the Corps for their continued success - citing the drive and determination they learned in the Marine Corps as a basis of their success going forward.
Additional skills are learned after Recruit Training in a specific Military Occupational Specialty, or MOS. There are hundreds of MOSs, and the one that is assigned to your son or daughter will define their role in the Marine Corps. Whatever MOS they are assigned will result in hands-on experience.
The length of your son or daughter's training will vary according to which MOS they select. All told, they will be in training for as long as 58 weeks before reaching their first permanent duty station.
